Transformer Tank

The transformer tank is one of the core components of oil-immersed transformers, mainly used to hold transformer oil (insulating oil) and the transformer body (core, windings, etc.), and provide heat dissipation, insulation and mechanical protection functions. The oil tank is usually welded from steel plates and needs to have good sealing, mechanical strength and heat dissipation performance to ensure the long-term stable operation of the transformer.

Product Overview

Product Overview and Key Features

The Transformer Tank is a robust, precision-engineered enclosure that protects core and coil assemblies while enabling efficient thermal management and long service life. The product offers an array of features tailored to modern power delivery requirements, incorporating modular transformer tank solutions and eco-friendly transformer tank design principles

Core mechanical performance:
  • High structural strength: Welded high-quality steel plates withstand internal oil pressure, external impact and transportation vibration. Large-size tanks adopt corrugated plate or reinforcing-rib structure for enhanced anti-deformation capability, reinforcing overall transformer tank safety

  • Good sealing performance: Rubber gaskets, welding sealing and bolt fastening prevent oil leakage and ingress of moisture/impurities. Optional accessories: oil level gauge, pressure relief valve for real-time tank status monitoring and enhanced transformer tank safety

Additional tank characteristics:
  • Excellent heat dissipation performance: Heat-dissipation fins, corrugated walls or plate-type radiators enlarge cooling area. Large transformers support OFAF / ODAF forced oil circulation cooling for higher heat-dissipation capacity within grid-scale transformer tanks

  • Anti-corrosion and anti-rust treatment: Inner & outer surfaces treated by sandblasting, painting or galvanizing. Stainless steel or special-coated tanks are available for coastal and chemical-zone harsh environments

  • Reinforced Shell Construction: High-grade steel plus anti-corrosion coatings guarantee mechanical integrity and lower maintenance, protecting internal components while advancing an eco-friendly transformer tank design

‑ Optimized Heat Dissipation: External surface and internal oil circulation channels improve convective & radiative cooling, boost load capacity and reduce thermal degradation risks
‑ Leak‑Proof Sealing and Joinery: Precision welding, gasket systems and pressure‑tested joints eliminate dielectric fluid loss, securing long‑term operational reliability and transformer tank safety

Technical Advantages and Innovation
‑ Corrosion Resistance: Multi‑layer coatings extend service life in corrosive surroundings and maintain structural integrity over decades
‑ Finite Element Analysis (FEA): Validated under mechanical, seismic and transport loads to provide high safety margin for grid‑scale projects in high‑risk zones
‑ Eco‑Friendly Design: Low‑VOC paint and raw‑material selection; compatible with biodegradable dielectric fluids for sustainability targets
‑ Modular Engineering: Reduce site welding, shorten installation time and support convenient future retrofits

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: Are your transformer accessories (tanks, cores, radiators) suitable for non‑standard transformer models? Do you support customisation based on drawingsA1: Absolutely. We are not only a manufacturer but also a provider of customised solutions. Whether you provide hand‑drawn sketches, used part samples, or PDF drawings, our technical team can produce precise CAD production drawings for you. For cores, we can tailor the stacking scheme of grain‑oriented silicon steel sheets according to your loss requirements; for tanks, we can adjust wall thickness and reinforcement structures based on insulation class
Q2: How do you ensure that the cores or clamping frames you produce match the performance of my original transformer designA2: We implement full‑process quality traceability. For cores, we strictly test flux density and specific loss to ensure they meet or even exceed national standards. For clamping frames (clamps), we pay special attention to punching position accuracy and galvanising/anti‑corrosion treatment, and provide CMM (coordinate measuring machine) inspection reports for critical dimensions, ensuring seamless installation upon receipt
Q3: What materials are used for the transformer tanks and radiators? How do you prevent rustingA3: We conventionally use high‑quality cold‑rolled steel plates (Q235B or Q345R). For rust prevention, we perform strict shot‑blasting to remove mill scale, followed by epoxy coal tar paint or polyurethane topcoat, with a dry film thickness strictly controlled above 120μm. For radiators (fin‑type radiators), we place special emphasis on internal pickling and Phosphating treatment to ensure that the transformer oil is not contaminated during circulation
Q4: Are the silicon steel sheets for the cores imported or domestic? Are the clamping frames strong enoughA4: We offer two options – Baowu Steel and Nippon Steel – to suit different budget requirements. For clamping frames (clamps), we use high‑strength steel formed in one stamping process, followed by vibration ageing treatment to relieve internal stress. This ensures that the clamps do not deform during a transformer short circuit, firmly securing the core
