Xuzhou International Airport – Transformer Retrofit Project

Xuzhou International Airport – Transformer Retrofit Project

1. Project Overview

Xuzhou Guanyin International Airport is a key aviation hub in the Huaihai Economic Zone. In recent years, with passenger throughput continuing to grow, the airport’s existing power supply and distribution system could no longer meet the increasing load demands. Some of the old transformers had been in service for many years, showing high energy consumption and reduced operating efficiency. At the same time, as a busy public infrastructure facility, the airport demands the highest levels of power safety and reliability.

This retrofit project focused on upgrading the aging transformers in the airfield lighting substation and several distribution rooms. The scope included the supply, installation guidance, and commissioning of multiple 10/0.4kV dry-type transformers. The airport required that the new equipment be fire-resistant, explosion-proof, moisture-proof, and low-noise, capable of handling the airport’s high-density load profile while meeting the strict civil-aviation standards for power continuity and safety.

2. Solution

To meet the specific operational conditions and requirements of Xuzhou Guanyin International Airport, we provided a customised solution covering the following aspects:

2.1 Equipment Selection & Replacement

We selected SCB series epoxy-resin cast-coil dry-type transformers to replace the old units. This series offers maintenance-free operation, excellent moisture and fire resistance, low partial discharge, and strong heat dissipation – making it particularly suitable for airports where fire safety is critical. The transformers are configured with Dyn11 connection groups, compatible with the existing three-phase four-wire distribution network, requiring no complex modifications.

2.2 Energy-Efficiency Optimisation

The new transformers deliver significantly lower no-load and load losses compared to the previous equipment, substantially reducing the airport’s long-term electricity consumption and operating costs. In addition, they feature flame-retardant, moisture-proof, and dust-resistant properties, adapting well to the airport’s diverse environmental conditions.

2.3 Smart Distribution Upgrade

As part of the distribution system overhaul, we installed intelligent monitoring devices to track transformer performance in real time. Smart power meters monitor voltage, current, harmonics, and other power-quality parameters, ensuring stable and safe power supply. Electrical fire detectors were also deployed to measure residual current and line temperature, triggering audible and visual alarms in case of abnormalities, thereby effectively preventing electrical fire hazards.

2.4 Full-Process Service Support

We provided end-to-end services covering manufacturing, packaging, transportation, on-site unloading and storage, installation guidance, commissioning, and after-sales maintenance. Our professional technical team was present on site throughout the project to ensure all installation and commissioning tasks were completed efficiently and on schedule.

3. Client Feedback

“After the completion of this transformer retrofit project, the stability of the airport’s power supply and distribution system has been significantly improved. The new dry-type transformers operate with very low noise, excellent temperature control, and noticeably lower energy consumption than the old units. Throughout the entire project, your company’s technical staff responded promptly and demonstrated a high level of professionalism – from equipment selection to installation and commissioning, they provided full technical support. We are very satisfied with this collaboration and look forward to more opportunities to work together in the future.”
